When you get to work with an amazingly creative couple like Michael and Siena you truly see the full spectrum of magic that weddings can create. This couple wove their love of vintage and historic style into their artist’s interpretation of a low-key, minimalist wedding celebration. Their intimate Culver Hotel wedding had guests meditating, laughing, singing, dancing, and smiling all through the night.
As a musician and a filmmaker, these two creative souls were destined to find each other in the vast sea of makers here in Los Angeles. Their passion is absolutely evident, especially when you see them interacting with friends or family. It’s obvious the two have curated intentional relationships in their lives separately and together. It made for the most meaningful connections on their wedding day.
This couple knew they wanted a vintage vibe to their wedding that tied in the earthy bits of what it means to be a human, connected to all that has come before. With a high emphasis on style and substance, this was easily achieved through the setting of The Culver Hotel.
If you’ve never laid eyes on this boutique hotel, do yourself a favor and hop in your car right now and check it out! You will immediately be transported to another time, while still simultaneously feeling connected to the modern city around you. They boast a legendary history, an artistic framework, and a timeless sensibility. With a tagline like “where history meets modern luxury” – you know you are in for a treat when you walk through the doors.
Walking down the hallways, up the cozy staircase, or into a room you are welcomed with an art deco hello. This almost old Hollywood vibe was the structure of Siena and Michael’s day. It was also tied into their wedding day looks. His a bespoke 3-piece black suit, and hers a delicate and ornate lace mermaid dress accented by heirloom jewelry.
On the wedding day, a crisp Saturday in December the weekend before Christmas, you could feel this settled warmth surrounding everything. The couple chose Christmas-time as a symbol. Of their love for one another, as it was around Christmastime that they first declared their love for one another. And a symbol of the ties that bind, and journeying into a new year changed.
As the guests adjourned in the main lobby/dining room turned living room-esque ceremony space, it began.
Siena and Michael filled their intimate Culver Hotel wedding ceremony with the most personalized touches around every corner. A reading from a Douglas Adams novel about the moment you first really are seen by someone. Movie quotes hidden within tearful vows. The most angelic singing of “I will stand in the places I am loved”. And a meditation filled with love and light. I have never been witness to a ceremony so grounded by the true adoration for two people!
The most powerful moment was when the mother of the bride spoke about the intention of this day. She shared, “when I asked them what they wanted this event to feel like, Siena said ‘I want to be present for this’, and Michael talked about all of you. The ritual of the wedding is something we create together in this space. The ritual means, they won’t be the same when we are done here.” That ritual of marriage is exactly what we choose to make of it each and every day.
This couple really made sure to embrace each moment of their Culver Hotel wedding day fully! The cozy living room vibe ceremony invited guests in. While the al fresco dining experience had everyone feeling like the guest of honor.
“I am so glad we found Kindred Wedding and Events! I hired Sarah as the coordinator for our wedding and it was the perfect fit. Sarah was always super helpful and full of good ideas — everything from wedding favor ideas to what our officiant should say in the ceremony!
I will never forget how nervous and anxious I was heading into the venue for the walk-through, but as soon as I met Sarah all that melted away. She is so sweet and capable and I realized that she had everything under control and that I really was going to be able to relax and enjoy my wedding day! What a gift!
On the day of the wedding Sarah was definitely two steps ahead at all times. All of my family loved her and commented on how great she was! For example, my dad kept telling the story that when one of the best man’s buttons fell off, she not only sewed it back on but also reinforced the other buttons so they wouldn’t come off later!
That pretty much sums Sarah up — solving problems before they even arise. If I could have told myself one thing leading up to the wedding it would be how great Sarah would be and that I really had nothing to worry about. It went more smoothly than I could have hoped!”
